Who, other than a hospitality professional, could be a better ambassador for our biodiversity?
On October 22, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Martinique Chamber of Commerce and Industry is hosting a field workshop on the topic of «Tourism and Biodiversity.» Organized as part of the “Qualité Tourisme” certification program with the support of environmental experts, the workshop aims to raise awareness among tourism stakeholders about the region’s environmental richness.
About fifteen tourism professionals have already signed up for this workshop, which will give them the opportunity to explore the biodiversity of the southern part of the island alongside environmental specialists. The goal is to train them to share information with their tourists about the richness of our biodiversity and the importance of preserving these sometimes-sensitive ecosystems. By informing their guests about the sites to visit, they can raise awareness about best practices for interacting with wild flora and fauna.
Martinique’s biodiversity is among the richest in the world, and this certainly represents an added asset as a tourist destination. However, mass tourism can also wreak havoc on fragile ecosystems.
Additional workshops of this kind are planned for the North Atlantic and the Northern Caribbean so that all stakeholders in the network can take meaningful action to preserve the region.
