Their goal: to assess whether the \u201cAlgaclean\u00bb kit, offered by the companies Thomsea and CDO\u2019Innov, would be suitable for the local situation. The principle: sucking up the algae using negative pressure. <i>\u201cWe use water as a medium; this prevents them from passing through the pump itself\u2014they\u2019re sucked in and pumped out wherever we want.\u00bb<\/i>, explains Thierry Thomaseau, the concept\u2019s inventor and CEO of Thomsea. According to its designers, the machine could collect up to 75 cubic meters of sargassum per hour\u2014either at sea within a 500-meter radius, using an amphibious pumping platform and hoses supported by tracked vehicles, or on the beach.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field--item\">\n<p><i>\u201cWe\u2019ve evaluated a lot of projects and quite a few prototypes, and this device seems to me to be the most robust for collecting algae in the shortest amount of time.\u00bb<\/i>, said Councilwoman Sylvie Gustave-dit-Duflo, chair of the Environment Committee. <i>\u201cIn 48 hours, it might be a tight squeeze, but in 2, 3, or 4 days, it might be doable.\u00bb<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>The cost of the project could be around 1.5 million euros, co-financed by the government. Serge Bideau, the prefect in charge of the Sargassum mission, who was present for this site visit, seemed quite positive: <i>\u201cThe government is ready to invest; now this initiative will be evaluated by ADEME and the DEAL and reviewed by Guadeloupe\u2019s Sargassum Task Force, which will decide whether or not to give the green light.\u00bb<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>If the collaboration is approved, <i>\u201cThe estimated timeframe is 8 months, but we\u2019re well aware of the urgency, so everything is ready to go, and we\u2019ll do everything we can to deliver in 4 months.\u00bb<\/i> explains Cyril Thabard, managing director of CDO\u2019Innov.<\/p>\n<p>The issue of how to make use of Sargassum must also be addressed; \u201cAlgaclean\u00bb offers a \u201cjacuzzi\u00bb-style system that processes the seaweed and removes any other materials, such as sand.
