All these events and\/or initiatives that claim to be eco-friendly ultimately lead us to question the deeper meaning of this concept. Often confused with \u00abcarbon neutrality\u00bb or the \u00abzero waste\u00bb principle, eco-responsibility aims as much to preserve and enhance the environment as it does to contribute to improved working conditions and economic development.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>From Carbon Neutrality\u2026 to Environmental Responsibility<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Carbon neutrality<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s take the example of a so-called \u00abcarbon-neutral\u00bb or \u00abzero-carbon\u00bb event; its sole purpose is to reduce the environmental impact of carbon. In other words, given that an event\u2019s environmental impact stems primarily from its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions\u2014which result from participants\u2019 transportation\u2014the goal of a carbon-neutral event is to minimize sources of pollution by meeting the following criteria:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>reduce GHG emissions by choosing a nearby location that is accessible by public transportation and suitable for carpooling\u2026<\/li>\n<li>develop a calculation grid to quantify the greenhouse gas emissions generated during the event; ;<\/li>\n<li>offset these emissions by purchasing carbon credits or planting trees, for example.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1243\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%20266%20189'%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" alt=\"\" width=\"266\" height=\"189\" data-lazy-srcset=\"..\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2017\/12\/images-1.jpg 266w\" data-lazy-sizes=\"(max-width: 266px) 100vw, 266px\" data-lazy-src=\"..\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2017\/12\/images-1.jpg\"><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1243\" src=\"..\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2017\/12\/images-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"266\" height=\"189\" srcset=\"..\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2017\/12\/images-1.jpg 266w, http:\/\/\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 266px) 100vw, 266px\"><\/noscript><\/p>\n<p><em>Zero Waste<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A so-called \u00abzero-waste\u00bb event aims to minimize the amount of waste it generates. To achieve this, the 3RV-E principle is used, which stands for: reduce at the source, reuse, recycle, recover, and\u2026 dispose of.<\/p>\n<p>For example, if we want to avoid wasting paper, we\u2019ll first use the Internet to share information (reduction at the source). If this method proves impossible or does not yield the desired results, reuse sheets that have already been used, or recycle the newly used paper, and then compost it. If all these steps are impossible to take or achieve, the last resort is to dispose of the paper\u2014that is, to throw it directly into the trash after its single use.<\/p>\n<p><em>Environmental Responsibility<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Environmental responsibility ultimately encompasses all the strategies outlined above, but it also aims to generate positive externalities by promoting local and\/or fair trade.<\/p>\n<p>It is worth noting that eco-responsibility is also known by two other terms: \u00abenvironmental responsibility\u00bb and \u00abhuman responsibility in the home,\u00bb which highlights the breadth of this concept.<\/p>\n<p>An in-depth exploration of the human and social dimensions of this concept will be the focus of the next article\u2026<\/p>\n<p>S\u00e9vrine RANDOL, Pascal SAFFACHE<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Achats et consommation \u00e9co-responsables, communication responsable, responsabilit\u00e9 soci\u00e9tale \u2026 sont autant d\u2019expressions quotidiennes dont le d\u00e9nominateur commun est la responsabilit\u00e9.
