After The Nature Box<\/a>, we continue our series on the various fruit and vegetable delivery services. Today, we speak with Andr\u00e9-Judes Cadasse of Petit Cocotier.<\/strong><\/p>\n

What is Petit Cocotier?<\/strong><\/p>\n

First and foremost, it\u2019s a vision\u2014an idea of organic, healthy, local agriculture that promotes positive nutrition. Positive for the earth, since we don\u2019t use pesticides or chemicals. We maintain and preserve the land in good condition. It\u2019s positive for farmers and everyone who works the land\u2014they aren\u2019t exposed to dangerous pesticides, which is good for their environment and their health. And above all, it\u2019s positive food because it\u2019s healthy for the population, promoting their well-being and health. We\u2019re bringing together more and more people around us who share this vision.<\/p>\n

What services do you offer?<\/strong><\/p>\n

We offer the fruits of our labor\u2014fruits and vegetables packaged in baskets\u2014at various pickup locations across the island. Our products come from our farm and from our partners\u2019 farms located in the north. We\u2019ve chosen a standard basket containing 7 kg of healthy fruits and vegetables grown using organic farming and permaculture practices. We wanted a smart, well-thought-out distribution system that allows producers to make a living and enables consumers to bypass shopping malls and other intermediaries, all while offering a great balance of quality, service, and price. We operate based on harvests and seasons, providing whatever nature brings us each season. The basket\u2019s contents are revealed every Sunday and vary approximately every two weeks. We regularly post recipe ideas featuring our products on our blog.<\/p>\n

Do you work with other organizations?<\/strong><\/p>\n

For example, we work with Brunch o p\u00e9yi to help people rediscover the joy of cooking, explore new ways to prepare fruits and vegetables, and find alternatives to the usual dishes of rice or pasta.<\/p>\n

How do you see the future?<\/strong><\/p>\n

We want to expand our business by moving into processing, particularly for products that are less popular in their raw form, such as dachine or yams. Some people have a hard time with these products, but we hope to one day offer them these vegetables\u2014for example, as fries or in other forms. I think that through processing, we\u2019ll be able to better showcase these types of products, which are still shunned by many people.<\/p>\n

We will continue to take action to work toward food self-sufficiency in Martinique.<\/p>\n
