Twenty-eight million metric tons of oil are expected to be produced there each year, to be exported to India.<\/strong><span id=\"more-578936\"><\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\">\n<\/h2>\n<p><iframe frameborder=\"0\" width=\"810\" height=\"455\" src=\"..\/embed\/video\/x75lc0g_ext_iframe\" allowfullscreen allow=\"autoplay\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>WHAT IS THE MINING PROJECT ABOUT?<\/h2>\n<p>The mining project is led by the Indian conglomerate\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Adani\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Adani<\/strong><\/a>, which generates electricity, primarily from coal. Adani is the largest port developer and operator in\u2019<strong>India<\/strong>, and is therefore committed to exploiting Australian resources as part of its operations. Once produced, the oil will be shipped through a port near the\u00a0<strong>Great Barrier Reef<\/strong>, and then will travel to India.<\/p>\n<p>The project is valued at 20 billion Australian dollars, or 12 billion euros\u2014an astronomical sum. But despite its economic significance, it has faced numerous legal and regulatory challenges and has consequently fallen several years behind schedule. However, even within the party itself, not all politicians were in agreement. The Australian public also remains deeply divided, as the project could bring almost as many benefits as it could disastrous consequences.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, the project\u2014which is worth several billion euros\u2014will have unprecedented economic benefits and will create many jobs. However, the price to pay for a thriving economy is the deterioration of\u00a0<strong>the Great Barrier Reef<\/strong>, a place that captivates with both its beauty and its diversity. But, like many natural landscapes, the Great Barrier Reef is now being damaged by numerous threats: agricultural runoff,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dailygeekshow.com\/corail-boue-australie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"mudslides (opens in a new tab)\">mudslides<\/a>, the proliferation of coral-eating starfish, and global warming.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-579026\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%201%201'%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" alt=\"\" data-lazy-src=\"..\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/corail-3.jpg\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-579026\" src=\"..\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/corail-3.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/noscript><figcaption><a href=\"#\">Wikimedia \/ Wise Hok Wai Lum<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>If there's one thing that's certain in\u00a0<strong>Australia<\/strong>\u00a0Among those opposed to climate change and the project are environmental activists. Nothing is less certain, because once again, opinions are divided between the creation of hundreds or even thousands of jobs and the potentially disastrous environmental consequences for the Great Barrier Reef.
