Perhaps you\u2019ve noticed them but haven\u2019t used them yet? Biosecurity stations are installed at several locations throughout Martinique and help combat invasive species. Local biodiversity is constantly threatened by the arrival of new invasive species, and once they\u2019re established, it\u2019s very difficult to eradicate them\u2014which is why it\u2019s essential to use the biosecurity stations. Want to enjoy biodiversity? Yes, but only if you go through the biosecurity stations.<\/h3>\n

Let's do the right thing!<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In natural areas where hikers and other visitors are likely to pass through, biosecurity stations have been set up. It is important to stop there to clean your shoes and remove any species or substances that could harm biodiversity. \u00abThese simple steps help prevent the spread of invasive alien species and preserve our natural habitats,\u00bb states the ONF in a social media post. \u00abFor some time now, dandelions have been observed on the Montagne Pel\u00e9e massif, along with other invasive alien species (IAS), some of which could become problematic.\u00bb<\/p>\n

Contamination of ecosystems can take various forms, but often involves seeds that may be stuck to shoes or embedded in the soil or in the cleats of shoes. Everyone needs to be vigilant!<\/p>\n

Biosafety stations inspired by R\u00e9union<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Among the world\u2019s major islands that have experienced the loss of their endemic species is R\u00e9union, where only 30% of the species are native. This is why R\u00e9union has been a pioneer in establishing biosecurity stations, and the Caribbean should follow its example to prevent disruption to ecosystems.<\/p>\n

For Martinique\u2019s biodiversity, this is a major challenge in protecting fragile ecosystems. However, it requires the commitment of every hiker and everyone who uses the hiking trails. \u00abTogether, let\u2019s protect the forest, endemic species, and Martinique\u2019s unique biodiversity,\u00bb urges the ONF to hikers.
