A Look Back at World Recycling Day

World Recycling Day took place on March 18, 2022. Martinique also participated in this event.

The metropolitan communities, CACEM and CAP Nord, organized campaigns to collect recyclable waste in order to prevent too many items from ending up in trash cans with household waste or, worse, in the natural environment. These initiatives included, for example, the installation of more recycling bins across the island.

Every year, 10 million metric tons of plastic waste end up in the oceans. Some estimates even put the figure at 7e a continent made of plastic waste!

These products contribute significantly to global warming. They are made using fossil fuels and therefore emit large amounts of CO2 during the production process.

Following the 2021 ban on several single-use plastic products, starting in 2022, the ban has been extended to plastic packaging for certain fruits and vegetables, tea and herbal tea bags, toys, and more…

However, cardboard and plastic waste are managed more effectively than glass.

The goal of these events is to encourage users to recycle so that we can recover value from our waste, given that the recycling rate in Martinique unfortunately remains low.
