In 2025, cleanup, waste removal, and replanting efforts were carried out in the Port Cohé mangrove forest in Martinique. Featured in CACEM’s 2023–2025 activity report, the Bestlife30 project covers three areas totaling 1,880 m² and received a grant of 100,000 euros.
Restoration of the Port Cohé site continued in 2025 through several initiatives aimed at improving the condition of this natural environment. The Centre de la Martinique Urban Community (CACEM) specifically reports the removal of derelict vessels and the disposal of inert and hazardous waste. These operations were accompanied by further mangrove cleanup efforts as part of an ecological restoration initiative for the site.

Cleanup and replanting efforts
In addition to waste removal, the operations also focused on mangrove replanting, in partnership with the association Roots of the Sea. This initiative is part of a broader project aimed at restoring degraded areas and promoting the natural recovery of biodiversity.
The work carried out in 2025 thus combines the remediation of the affected areas and the restoration of vegetation.
However, the report does not specify either the number of mangroves replanted or the results of any ecological monitoring. It therefore does not yet allow us to assess the effects of these interventions on the site’s biodiversity.
A project receiving 100,000 euros in funding
Named Bestlife30 Port Cohé, the project has received a grant of 100,000 euros to support the ecological restoration of three mangrove areas, covering a total area of 1,880 m².
This area corresponds to the land covered by the program, not to an area where restoration has already been fully completed. The work currently underway represents a step in the site’s restoration, with the goal of promote the gradual recovery of biodiversity.
While CACEM’s 2023–2025 report documents the initial work, it does not specify the project’s completion timeline or the indicators planned to evaluate the results of this restoration.
