Press Release from the Martinique Joint Electricity Authority
Energy-Saving Awareness Campaign
Wednesday, August 14, 2019, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Génipa Shopping Center.
«Watt Games» are offered to children to help them learn how to save energy while having fun!
Designed by children for children
Energy demand management is one of the pillars of the energy transition in Martinique. The SMEM, committed to playing an active role in this effort, has been developing a program of various initiatives aimed at children and the general public for several years.
Following an energy contest organized by SMEM for elementary schools in Martinique, the « Watt Game » was named the «Innovation Award» by the jury.
To continue raising awareness about energy conservation—a message promoted by the SMEM yole—during the Martinique Yole Tour, SMEM President Ralph MONPLAISIR and the union council members plan to engage with the public alongside their team of yole rowers.
To this end, an event titled «Energy Conservation Awareness and Yole SMEM Book Signing» will be held at the Génipa shopping center in Ducos.
The sequence of Souvenir photos with the energetic Ti-Boug from SMEM and the rowers from the Fem’&Hom’ association in La Barre will be another opportunity to provide children with practical tools to fulfill their role as energy-saving ambassadors.
Learn more about the "watt" game
Be mindful of your actions and avoid unnecessary waste!
"The Watt Game" is a board game inspired by the rules of the Game of the Goose.
Throughout the game, it encourages you to conserve energy. It consists of 63 squares dotted with bonuses and traps. As the player moves through the squares, they will be rewarded or penalized based on their efforts or wastefulness. Penalties or rewards are assigned based on the severity or relevance of the action depicted in the image… the goal being that, in the end, the player with the most tokens is declared the winner (even if they do not cross the «Finish» square first).
It’s also possible to play the traditional way, just like regular Goose, without using the tokens. This way, the Watt game remains accessible to younger children.
A board game you can take anywhere!
Another unique feature of the Watt game is the material it’s made of: all the pieces are washable! So you can take the Watt game anywhere—to the beach, to the forest… It will quickly become the perfect playmate for the whole family.
Contents: 4 game pieces, 350 tokens, 2 dice, 55 cards, and a game mat. 2 to 4 players.
Created by children for children, the “watt” game is an original idea from the Rivière-Lézarde school in Gros-Morne.
