The zérofossile.org movement is launching an international campaign to urge world leaders to phase out fossil fuels and transition to 100% of renewable energy as quickly as possible in order to limit runaway global warming…
Have we already reached the point of no return?
All the warning lights are flashing red for 2018. According to the charts from the NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information, Climate at a Glance, a massive anomaly in average temperatures was observed over just 5 months, with an increase of 2.43°…If things continue this way, the COP 21 goal of limiting global warming to no more than 2° by 2100 will never be achieved, because at this rate we will be approaching 5° before the end of this century, which would not only be uninhabitable for most species but would also trigger a massive migration of survivors to regions where life is possible…Furthermore, a 2° rise (which we have already exceeded by the end of 2018) leads scientists to fear an uncontrollable runaway climate…It is now widely accepted that greenhouse gases are responsible for global warming—primarily due to the massive use of fossil fuels in human activities. And aside from the mayors of New York, London, and a few other municipalities, few leaders are showing a willingness to switch to alternative energy sources…
Following the global movement, #Riseforclimate #InOurStreetsForTheClimate, which brought together hundreds of thousands of people in 95 countries last weekend, the movement continues and invites everyone to be an agent of change. Here is what zerofossile.org is sharing:
«On October 8, the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change—Editor’s note) will release its new report on the 1.5°C warming target.
There is still time to act—but every day that passes brings us closer to the point of no return.
We must therefore use this report to expose the role of the fossil fuel industry and pressure public and financial institutions to cut ties with coal, gas, and oil companies.
In mid-October, we encourage you to take the IPCC report to your local government, your bank, your investment advisor, etc., to make it clear to them: There’s still time, but to make that happen, you must divest from fossil fuels so that the transition to a 100% renewable future can become a reality.
»You'll be able to find more information on this page shortly."
The website allows everyone to stay informed in real time so they can take action at their own level:
«IPCC Report: There's Still Time!" »I would like to be kept informed about the events that will be organized in mid-October in connection with the release of the next IPCC report."
As the climate continues to change more drastically with each passing day, world leaders are gathering on Wednesday, September 26, for another «One Planet Summit» in New York to commend themselves for their actions against climate change… President Macron is expected to be awarded the title of «Champion of the Earth» at the summit.»…
