Sanitation in the Northern Caribbean
from Martinique
Martinique has a total of 86 public wastewater treatment plants. The 40 largest plants alone treat more than 90% of the pollution generated by the population connected to a public sewer system. However, only half of the population of Martinique (65% of the urban population and 40% of the rural population) can be connected to a public sewer system existing; today, 150,000 residents are actually connected.
The 240,000 residents unconnected ones use an on-site wastewater treatment system (known as «non-collective») systems, which often fail due to poor design or inadequate maintenance. In some cases, wastewater is even discharged into the natural environment without any treatment.
To take stock of Sanitation in the Northern Caribbean And above all, to answer your questions, the Martinique Water Authority and the region’s water and wastewater stakeholders invite you to attend the « ODE & You », the June 14, 2018, by 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the City's Community Center Carbet – (1, Place Jules Grévy, Bourg)
An event organized by the 3ED Association for the Martinique Water Authority.
