New ICEA Meeting
Following an initial meeting on October 23, the ICEA is continuing its series of ICEA Meetings. Open to everyone upon registration—and especially to our young people, middle schoolers, high schoolers, and college students—the next meeting will take place on Tuesday, November 20, 2018, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the ICEA, 122 Rue Victor Sévère, in Fort-de-France.
The theme will be “Ocean: Red Alert! A Major Challenge?”
As we enter the 21st century, the ocean is at the heart of our development, but will it be at the heart of our future? Imbalances of unprecedented magnitude are unfolding before our eyes. Climate change, pollution, and the destruction of life are evident across all latitudes, and these upheavals are occurring at an extraordinarily rapid pace.
What is the current state of the imbalances affecting the ocean? What are the impacts and challenges? How can civil society mobilize to address this immense challenge? Now is indeed the time for us to adopt a new perspective on the world so that the future remains possible.
To answer these questions, Nathalie de Pompignan—a former member of the Cousteau team, an expert in ecological sciences at UNESCO, an associate professor at Sciences Po Paris, and a faculty member at ICEA—will share with us the current state of our knowledge, offering a candid yet hopeful perspective. She will provide us with useful insights for preserving our “shared ocean home.”.
