To mark the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul, the feast day of fishermen, the town of Le François and the Saint-Michel Parish decided to create a unique event centered on seafarers and their activities. The nautical and maritime sectors are, in fact, the main strength of this town, particularly in terms of developing blue tourism.
As a result, several events are being organized, including a conference and discussion on Sargassum featuring a presentation by Professor Saffache on Tuesday, the 25th, in the council chamber.
The Sargassum problem has had a significant impact on the residents of Saint Francis and on maritime professionals in their work in recent years, and it is a sort of collective relief to be able to talk about it and look toward the future despite this scourge that seems set to persist.
Even better news: the “Village de la mer” will be open through Sunday, June 30, at the Espace Filia, near the marina. There, visitors can meet the various tourism operators active on the François lake, as well as explore the full range of water sports activities, including the sailing school and the school in wakeboarding, Mada Wake School, Famous fishermen and rowers from Le François are also invited!
On Saturday, June 29, there will be “The Festival of the People of the Sea,” featuring a Mass celebrated by the parish vicar, followed by a flower-decorated boat contest. A reception will be held after the Mass!
Finally, to wrap up the event—and since we’re in the homeland of the Yole—a lecture and discussion on the Yole is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. with writer A. Quion-Quion.
It’s shaping up to be a great week, during which we’ll be able to explore all the seaside activities this town has to offer—and even start planning our vacations and activities for the kids…
