Corsica Sole, a solar energy producer, is expanding to accelerate the energy transition in our regions!
Corsica Sole, a specialist in island regions, established a presence in Martinique this year.
Founded in 2009, Corsica Sole now has 25 employees spread across Corsica, Paris, Martinique, Réunion, and the south of France. Since its first projects involving hangars with photovoltaic roofs in Corsica, the company now operates more than 35 MWp of installed capacity, with a goal of installing 100 MWp by 2020.
Since the offer of free hangars has already proven successful in Corsica and will soon be implemented in Martinique, it is now the turn of agricultural cooperatives in Réunion to be won over by the idea of generating clean energy and maintaining—or even expanding—agricultural activity on the island. Many projects are already underway thanks to the hiring of new local staff, in addition to the two large-scale rooftop projects in Réunion that were selected as winners in the CRE’s most recent call for proposals and are currently in development.
In the Caribbean, Corsica Sole hopes to find new opportunities to meet the energy needs of residents by entering into a partnership with Antilla and Martinique 2030—two major players in sustainable communication that are at the forefront of the island’s environmental news.
Several larger-scale projects are set to get underway for Corsica Sole, particularly in Corsica, where four photovoltaic power plant projects with energy storage were selected in the CRE’s 2015 call for bids, totaling 13 MWp of capacity. One of these plants was commissioned last June on land with no agricultural value to meet the annual energy needs of 1,200 households (see photo). This 4.5 MWp plant is equipped with a sun-tracking system to optimize energy production. In addition to being able to store the energy it generates, it is equipped with its own control software, the result of two years of in-house research and development. Construction on the other power plants will begin soon, with commissioning scheduled before the end of 2019.
Through its subsidiary dedicated to electric mobility, Corsica Sole offers charging solutions for electric cars. Two 100% solar charging stations, installed more than two years ago, make it possible to travel across Corsica using only clean energy. Island regions where the vast majority of electricity comes from carbon-intensive sources could benefit from these installations to promote the clean development of electric vehicles.
Although he is known as a specialist in island regions (1e (an independent producer based in Corsica), Corsica Sole is also gaining recognition in the south of France, where construction is set to begin this month on a 10 MWp power plant at a BASOL-classified hazardous waste site, and where a new business entity has just been established.
