The goal of this new edition of the Kay Pwop campaign is to prevent illegal dumping and environmental pollution. The idea? To reach out to the residents of Martinique to collect used items, hazardous materials, and bulky waste that could have ended up damaging or destroying the environment and biodiversity.
A New Opportunity to Sort and Recycle
Following several Kay Pwop events earlier in 2026—the famous event dedicated to waste sorting and recycling—Kay Pwop will make a stop on Wednesday, May 27, in the town of Sainte-Anne, at Barrière Lacroix Stadium. The event is free and open to the general public. Specifically, it is a morning event, running from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., where anyone who wishes to do so can drop off their bulky items or products. «It’s the perfect opportunity to declutter your home,» the organizers note. «Come out in large numbers to learn about the sorting and recycling systems available in Martinique and take this chance to get rid of what’s cluttering up your space.»
Why is it important to recycle?
Illegal dumping is still too common in Martinique, and the Kay Pwop event makes it easier for residents to dispose of items that are potentially harmful to the environment and biodiversity.
Items accepted include:
- Light bulbs and neon lights
- Electrical Appliances and Home Appliances
- Sports and Recreation Items
- Household Packaging
- Used motor oil
- Games and Toys
- Unused Medications
- Furniture, home textiles, and mattresses
- Batteries
- Tires (without rims)
- All home textiles
- Lawn mowers, brush cutters, and leaf blowers
However, before bringing your waste, it is important to find out exactly which items are accepted; «items not listed will be refused.».
The event is organized by the Entreprises&environnement association and supported by the city of Sainte-Anne, the Acise insertion environnement association, the Espace Sud metropolitan community, Aliapur (a tire collection organization), Batribox, Cyclamed, Cyclevia, and the organizations ecomaison, ecosystem, and Ecologic, as well as Re_Fashion and valobat.
