This Friday, June 1, in the council chamber of Ducos City Hall, the Martinique Nature Park (PNM) and the city of Ducos signed a TARGET AGREEMENT for the enhancement and protection of Ducos’s natural heritage.
Located in central-western Martinique, the town of Ducos is part of the Martinique Natural Park. It is home to numerous wetlands that harbor true natural treasures worth preserving: Génipa Bay, Champigny Pays Noyé, the mangrove forest, the La Manzo Dam, and more.
In recent years, this area—which covers 37.7 km²—has been gradually transforming and developing to accommodate a growing population—17,339 residents according to the latest census—as well as businesses, a high school, sports facilities, and more…
Based on these findings, Louis BOUTRIN, president of the PNM, and Charles-André MENCE, mayor of the municipality, decided to work together to preserve the municipality’s environmental potential and promote the responsible development of the city of Ducos and, by extension, of Martinique.
This performance agreement sets out the framework for actions to be carried out jointly by the PNM and the municipality of Ducos over a two-year period (2018–2020), focusing on three main areas:
- Environmental education (organizing activities and initiatives in environmental education: field trips, presentations in schools, etc.)
- Promoting the Region's Natural Heritage (Zero Chlordecone Certification)
- Improving the Living Environment (Creating a Plant Library)
