Asso-Mer has partnered with dive centers in Martinique to offer diving sessions that allow participants to explore coral reefs.
The coral spawning season is a special time of year that offers magical moments in close contact with nature. Specifically, right now, corals are releasing large quantities of gametes into the water to reproduce. This is a natural phenomenon that can be captured in photographs. Dives take place at night, and Asso-Mer provides a brief training session to help participants identify the different types of coral and better understand the spawning phenomenon.
How can I join these dives?
The first dive is scheduled for August 2 with the Natiyabel Dive Center in Sainte-Anne. The other dates can be found on the Asso-Mer website.
To participate in the dives, you must have at least a Level 1 diving certification. Asso-Mer asks participants to bring their own underwater flashlights. «Bring your camera—we’ll feature your photos in our publications after the dive!» adds Asso-Mer.
The initiative is supported by the Water Authority, DEAL, the Prefecture, the Crédit Mutuel Alliance Fédérale Foundation, and the Port of Martinique. Partners for this event include: Agrra (Atlantic and Gulf Rapid Reef Assessment), IFRECOR, the Natiyabel Dive Center, Surcouf Dive, and the O Fil de l’Eau Dive Center.
