Local Products Take Center Stage During School-Business Week

A roundtable discussion on development and applied research strategies for local products was held as part of School-Business Week to highlight partnership opportunities between PARM (Martinique Regional Agri-Food Cluster) and schools. The goal was to present PARM’s strategy for promoting local products, with a focus on creating added value for Martinique’s agricultural production. Several promotion initiatives, both completed and currently underway, have been carried out by PARM (locally grown vegetables, Martinique honey, livestock meat, and the revitalization of Martinique’s cocoa industry). The goal is to strengthen the competitiveness of those already in the market and ensure their long-term viability. The connection with young people as part of School-Business Week is based on the transfer of expertise and PARM’s involvement in training. This roundtable discussion will help identify avenues for collaboration with potential partners, with the goal of expanding PARM’s reach into the academic world, giving young people a better understanding of local products, promoting careers in science, and making the PARM platform and its techniques more widely available.

The full interview with Ms. Katia Rochefort, director of PARM, is available in the France-Antilles, December 12, 2017.
