From April 24 to 25, 2019, UNITE Caribbean brought together about 15 participants from Haiti, Saint Lucia, Dominica, Haiti, and Martinique. They gathered at the Martinique Chamber of Commerce and Industry to attend a train-the-trainer workshop on Business Continuity in the private sector. This training was provided by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR).
This training initiative is part of the implementation of the Caribbean Climate Regional Integration Support Project (PAIRC-C), a multi-year project funded by the Innovative Priority Solidarity Fund of the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, in coordination with the French embassies in Haiti and Saint Lucia, and implemented by UNITE Caribbean, a Caribbean agency specializing in consulting and support for the implementation of cooperation projects in the Caribbean. The PAIRC-C, which covers the five Creole-speaking territories of the Caribbean (Dominica, Guadeloupe, Haiti, Martinique, and Saint Lucia)—known as the PAIRC-C territories—aims to strengthen the Caribbean’s climate resilience.

By supporting the development of a network of Caribbean stakeholders dedicated to sharing experiences and implementing joint projects.
This event underscores the Caribbean dimension of the project, as in addition to these 14 Caribbean participants from PAIRCC territories, Ms. Andria, a representative of the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), as well as three representatives from the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) for the Americas and the Caribbean region.
The Caribbean region is vulnerable to natural hazards, which are often exacerbated by climate change. This training program was designed to strengthen the resilience of PAIRCC territories by training at least three trainers per territory. These trainers are now qualified to assist small businesses in designing and implementing their business continuity plans within their respective regions. By participating in this training, the participants from Martinique, in coordination with the CCIM, have committed to organizing a training session for local businesses.
During the two-day training session, participants from Martinique—including members of the CCIM—as well as Annie-Dominique POULLET from the company Ris’k, and Jean-Yves Bonnaire from the consulting firm OBSIDIAN Solutions, gained in-depth knowledge on mapping and assessing disaster and climate risks to businesses, as well as risk reduction strategies and business continuity plans.
