Throughout the summer break, from July to September, the Martinique Botanical Conservatory will host an exhibition aimed at fostering a better understanding of the role played by flora and the importance of preserving it. Through art, visitors will be able to engage with environmental conservation issues in a new way.
New Exhibition
The «Exi(s)tere» exhibition will be on view at the Père Pichon Museum throughout the summer break, from July 8 to September 9, 2026. “During this time, let the plants tell you their story through the combined perspectives of two socially conscious artists and the expertise of the National Botanical Conservatories,” notes the botanical conservatory, which has announced the exhibition’s move from the Tropiques Atrium to the Père Pichon Museum.
Two artists are sharing the work: Amandine Polet—who describes herself as an «artivist,» that is, a blend of artist and activist—is collaborating with photographer David Lanista, whose photographs are exhibited as a counterpoint to the artwork.
Each visitor will also have the opportunity to leave their mark on a gold mural, which has been set up for the occasion.
Fostering a critical perspective among visitors: preserving the environment
A variety of tools and methods are used to spark visitors« curiosity: »ranging from botany, poetry, sketches, photography, sound art, and ephemeral stencils, this exhibition invites you to: discover endangered plant species in a new way, as well as plants often overlooked due to our ‘botanical blindness,’ and to take a fresh look at the plant world around us.”.
Art is thus used in an effort to raise viewers' awareness of the importance of preserving biodiversity and the environment.
This cultural event is supported by the city of Fort-de-France, the French Office for Biodiversity, the Territorial Collectivity of Martinique, and the Prefecture’s Environmental Division.
