In the face of natural hazards, why not take inspiration from nature? That’s the idea behind this new call for projects from the Fondation de France. Indeed, in the face of climate change and natural hazards, there are many solutions inspired by the living world: animals, plants, and ecosystems. Let’s support them!
Innovating with Nature
The Fondation de France is launching a new call for projects to develop Nature-Based Solutions (NBS). The idea? To draw inspiration from the natural world to find solutions to human challenges, because nature is brimming with innovative solutions, processes, and techniques. « »In the face of intensifying climate risks and ecosystem degradation, Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) are emerging as key drivers for sustainable action,” explains the CRESS of Martinique, which is promoting the Fondation de France’s call for projects.
This call for projects from the Fondation de France aims to support initiatives that «protect and restore ecosystems,» that «prevent natural hazards (floods, erosion, etc.)», and that «engage local stakeholders in shared governance.» Eligible participants include nonprofit organizations, local governments, public institutions, and all relevant organizations.
Funding
The call for projects offers funding ranging from €30,000 to €100,000 throughout France, including the overseas departments and territories. The scope of this call for proposals is broad and covers, for example: regional consultation, land management and governance, awareness-raising and participatory workshops, and, finally, regional assessments.
To obtain funding, there are a few conditions that must be met:
– The project must be located in a rural or suburban area that is vulnerable to natural hazards
– The project must meet at least 4 criteria set by the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature)
– The project must be co-financed for a minimum of 10 % (human time may be included in the calculation)
