As part of Sustainable Development Week, which will take place from May 30 to June 5, 2018, the DEAL and ADEME have decided to join forces to highlight the waste management initiatives being implemented in the region.
What is Sustainable Development Week?
European Sustainable Development Week (ESDW) is an annual event held across Europe. Its goal is to promote sustainable development and raise awareness of the issues involved. A wide range of events (conferences, exhibitions, film screenings, educational projects, tours, and more) is offered to the public to raise awareness of and showcase local initiatives focused on sustainable development and the ecological transition, as well as the stakeholders working to improve our quality of life!
What initiatives are being undertaken in the region?
Martinique faces a global challenge: waste management. Our territory is small, yet the volume of waste produced is significant, which raises the question:
«What should we do with all this waste that's cluttering up our space?»
As part of this initiative, the Petit-Galion Non-Hazardous Waste Storage Facility, the Trompeuse Environmental Technology Park, and the glass crushing center—BATIMAT Recyclage, SIDREP, and Martinique Recyclage— CITRADEL, and the Jardins de Trenelle-Citron are opening their doors to you!
This is an opportunity for you to learn about the various waste recovery processes in the region. The eight sites offer guided tours that walk you through the waste treatment process.
This is an opportunity for everyone to learn about existing programs and to clear up any doubts or dispel common misconceptions. These special events are intended to reinforce proper sorting practices and to spark discussion about organizing new recycling streams in the region.
