Placemats were recently distributed to restaurant owners to raise their customers’ awareness of best practices for observing sea turtles. This resource also provides them with information about these species, enabling them to answer their customers’ questions and to know what steps to take if, for example, a sea turtle lays eggs on their patio.
Some professionals have become true local representatives of the Martinique Sea Turtle Network, reporting every nesting and hatching event and applying precautionary principles to ensure the turtles’ well-being (clearing beaches of trash and nets, reviewing the lighting at their facilities, etc.).
This placemat set, titled “Let’s Protect Sea Turtles,” is part of the prevention strategy outlined in the National Action Plan (NAP) for sea turtles.
More than 100,000 copies are currently being distributed to restaurants along the coast. This initiative will help raise awareness among many customers.
Sea turtles in Martinique can be seen in the ocean or laying eggs on many beaches. However, it’s important to know what to do if you encounter a turtle to ensure everything goes smoothly—for both you and the turtle.
