Last Friday, Executive Councilor Francis Carole took part in the groundbreaking ceremony for the new ESAT ((Work-Based Assistance Facility and Service) in Le Morne-Rouge : the Savane Petit ESAT.
A modern building
Previously housed in a former neighborhood school, this facility—founded in 1993 and managed by ADAPEI (Departmental Association of Friends and Parents of People with Intellectual Disabilities)—accepts adult workers with disabilities referred by the MMPH (Martinique Center for People with Disabilities).
The growing number of young people in care, combined with the building’s dilapidated condition and cramped quarters, made it necessary to build a new, more modern, and functional facility in the Mespont neighborhood of Morne Rouge.
Construction began in October 2017 and is expected to last 11 months. The new ESAT will feature, among other things, an innovative production facility: an eco-friendly laundry (using rainwater, solar heating, etc.) that will offer its clients—particularly hospitals—added value in terms of service.
A strategic location
This new location, provided by the municipality, is strategically located because it is close to the ADAPEI residential facility, where some of the 66 ESAT workers live.
Within the ESAT, they provide the following services, among others:
- Individual Social Support
- Socialization Activities
- Maintenance and Development of Basic Knowledge
- Prevention and Health Promotion Initiatives
- Measures to Help Employees Adjust to the Workplace
- Access to Art, Culture, Sports, and Recreation
