Sustainable Housing. What can be built with bamboo? What are the characteristics of bamboo? To what extent can it be used? These are the kinds of questions the Ypiranga association will seek to answer during a participatory workshop organized in April at the Tivoli eco-site.

A participatory work camp is being organized at the Tivoli eco-site, with an initial project: the bamboo project. Among the many activities planned involving bamboo are «harvesting, cutting, drilling, cleaning, washing, and treating,» the organizers note. «Come discover how bamboo is prepared for use in construction,» they invite. Indeed, bamboo is a material that is not widely known in the construction industry, yet it offers many benefits for sustainable housing.
«We’ll be working with machines and cutting tools,» warn the organizers, who urge caution and recommend wearing pants, a long-sleeved T-shirt, closed-toe shoes—safety shoes or boots—gloves, and a hard hat.
Two dates to choose from
The event will take place on two dates: Wednesday, April 15, and Friday, April 17, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Tivoli Eco-Center, located on Chemin Desbrosse la Vallée. After harvesting the bamboo, the event will introduce participants to sustainable construction and raise awareness about environmentally friendly housing.
On the initiative of the Ypiranga Association, the «Bamboo» mission is supported by ADEME and organized in partnership with numerous organizations involved in sustainable development and education, such as the Civic Service, the city of Fort-de-France, Safe Water Cube, Echobat, Emerwall, and Aurea Structures.
