On Wednesday, May 30, 2018, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the Maison de la Mangrove in Les Trois Ilets, the Natural Park invites you to «Scientific Bokantaj: Discovering the Spiders of Martinique,» those little eight-legged creatures that frighten some and fascinate others.
Generally small in size, even tiny, they are found in all terrestrial environments, from the soil up to the treetops. They play an important role as predators and are thus an essential link in the balance and proper functioning of all ecosystems.
Often disliked and saddled with a bad reputation that has more to do with fantasy than reality, spiders are nevertheless harmless to humans—at least in Martinique.
The Martinique Nature Park aims to provide as many people as possible with a better understanding of our biodiversity—which is so rich and exceptional—since Martinique is one of the world’s biodiversity hotspots. During the second «scientific bokantaj,” you’ll have the opportunity to explore the world of Martinique’s spiders with Patrick MARECHAL, a spider expert.
You might be lucky enough to spot a species that is endemic to Martinique and found only in the mangrove forest…
