«For the first time in Martinique, a film festival entirely dedicated to the environment.».
To mark Water Week, the Zero Waste Martinique association is organizing the Rivages Film Festival, a film festival dedicated to nature and environmental protection.
How can I participate?
Focusing on the issue of the environment, the Rivages Film Festival is being organized in conjunction with Water Week, which will take place from April 17 to 26 in Martinique. «15 documentary films and short films from Haiti, Senegal, Greenland, Peru … and right here at home. True stories about water, the climate, the oceans, and the women and men fighting for their land,», according to the Zero Waste Martinique association, the festival’s organizer.
Admission is free and open to everyone. Screenings will take place in Anses d’Arlet, Fort-de-France, and in many towns across Martinique. These film screenings will be followed by discussions with the audience. «After each screening, we’ll talk about it together,» says the association. «[…] To ground the themes in the local context of Martinique.».
For Water and the Environment
Four screenings are organized for the general public, and a large portion of the festival is geared toward younger audiences, with 15 screenings reserved for school groups. Thanks to this initiative, students will have the opportunity to discover cinematic masterpieces and engage with issues related to water conservation and environmental protection.
Among the various short and feature-length films, viewers will be able to enjoy *Katrina Babies*, a deep dive into the heart of Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath in New Orleans. In a different style but still with the environment as a backdrop, *Hija de la laguna* is a film that blends feminism and environmentalism in Chile.
A true window onto the world and environmental issues, the Rivages Film Festival is supported by the ODE, the OFB, the Marine Nature Park, the Palais de la Porte Dorée, Le Bayou bar, and the Archip’elles association. See you on April 17 for the first session!
