This new national edition of the Fête de la Science will take place throughout the French overseas territories from Saturday, November 10, through Sunday, November 18, with the theme “Common Misconceptions” and two local focuses: “industrial heritage” and “the sea.” Throughout the week, activities, open houses, and guided tours will take place across the region, and a “Science Village” will open its doors at the Madiana Convention Center, featuring more than twenty booths to explore…
For the past 27 years, this must-attend annual event has been helping people of all ages discover science, with the goal of sparking curiosity. Through hands-on experiments, meetings, and discussions, this event offers insights into the questions that arise in our daily lives, with the help of scientists.
And this year, the chosen theme will shatter preconceived notions and the fake news that runs rampant on social media by fostering critical thinking from a very young age! The goal is twofold: “To contribute to public debate and foster critical thinking, so that everyone can confront misinformation and fake news, understand that not all content is created equal, and distinguish between emotional reactions and reasoned thinking.” Indeed, behind every preconceived notion lies the question of how to step back and evaluate information, the distinction between belief and knowledge, and the ability to question one’s own arguments. The method for addressing this is to adopt a scientific approach.”
During this year’s event, everyone will have the opportunity to test their knowledge and participate in workshops, lectures, and field observations in various fields based on their interests, as more than fifteen organizations are taking part in the event.
