As part of the Air Program of the CACEM, Madininair conducts an annual assessment of nitrogen dioxide (a tracer gas for vehicle pollution) along the region’s major roadways: the beltway, the highway, RN1, Avenue Maurice Bishop, RN2, and RD15. In 2017, additional measurements were also taken in five business parks: Etang Z’abricot, the Dillon Free Zone, La Lézarde, Place d’Armes, and Californie.
This year, in addition to roadside areas, measurements are being taken in three new zones: Rivière-Roche, Kerlys, and Lareinthy. These measurements of nitrogen dioxide—the primary automotive pollutant—make it possible to track changes in concentrations along the CACEM’s main traffic arteries and to establish a baseline for transportation issues in each business zone within the territory, thereby providing data to inform the development of coherent transportation plans.
Measurements were taken from September 16 to November 13, 2018, using passive sampling tubes to collect air samples at 110 locations along major roads and in business districts.
