Career Guidance: Why Not Consider a Career in the Water Industry?
At a time when many professionals are questioning the meaning of their careers, working in the water sector guarantees that you’re serving your community and the environment. And you don’t even have to move to mainland France, since there are many training programs available in Martinique.
As the school year comes to an end, the question of what path high school graduates should take arises. In Martinique, there is a wide range of educational programs related to water and sanitation.
The University of the Antilles, Martinique campus, offers a university diploma (DU) titled «Aquatic Environment Technician,» which aims to «understand, identify, and map the pressures and risks associated with aquatic environments,» according to the university, in order to better address them.
Other courses offered include:
- The Professional Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Process Engineering, with a specialization in Water Resource Planning and Management, in partnership with CNAM Martinique and Legta Croix-Rivail
- The BTS in Water Management, a work-study program, in partnership with Joseph Pernock High School and the CFA Santé Martinique
- The vocational certification «Water Treatment Technician» at CFA Santé Martinique, in partnership with water industry stakeholders such as the SAUR Group
In addition to high school graduates, this range of water-related training programs may also be suitable for professionals seeking a career change and looking for a meaningful career.
Working to Protect the Environment
Other programs are offered in Martinique that focus on the environment in general and water in particular. One such program is the BTS in Environmental Services, which, according to the Dumas Jean-Joseph High School, enables graduates to work «[…] in the sectors of sanitation, waste management, and hygiene and cleanliness.».
Finally, the same institution also offers a vocational baccalaureate in «Pollution Management and Environmental Protection,» which enables future professionals to learn how to conduct environmental assessments and organize decontamination and remediation projects.
Thus, there are a variety of training programs available in Martinique for those who wish to work toward improving water quality in particular and protecting the environment in general.
