Explore the marine environment far from the shore. That’s the idea behind the underwater tours organized by the Carbet des Sciences, which allow people of all ages to discover the sea and all it has to offer. It’s a very hands-on approach to science, aimed in part at raising public awareness of the challenges of marine conservation.
Underwater Walks
This is an innovative way to explore Martinique’s nature and coastline. In April 2026, the Carbet des Sciences is offering several sessions throughout the month: Tuesday, April 7, at Anse Figuier in Rivière-Pilote; Wednesday, April 8, at Grande Anse in Anses d’Arlet; and Monday, April 13, at Fond Boucher, between Case-Pilote and Bellefontaine. Finally, a last session will be held on April 14 at Anse Turin, in Carbet.
Different programs for different groups. Le Carbet des Sciences offers a program for children, designed to help them explore the marine environment in a hands-on way. The organizers require that children between the ages of 6 and 9 already be comfortable in the water. As for the second option, «With Family/Friends,» participants must know how to swim and be at least 10 years old.
Between Land and Sea
What makes these underwater walks unique is that they let you explore the sea with your feet in the water. It’s a way to ’discover Martinique in a different way: exceptional sites, accessible right from the shore,« say the organizers. With nearly 40,000 participants in its programs each year, the Carbet des Sciences reaffirms its commitment to protecting the marine environment, as demonstrated in particular by the “Pesticides” exhibition in Basse-Pointe, which runs through April 4.
