In Martinique, three GAL, based on the 3 EPCI (CACEM, Espace Sud, and Cap Nord) each lead a local development strategy in their respective areas.
Each strategy is broken down into an action plan with a dedicated budget.
CACEM:
The Centre Region: Spaces That Connect People
As a quintessential peri-urban area, the stakeholders of CACEM have once again chosen to focus their strategy on bridging the gap between rural and urban areas, with the aim of promoting social, economic, and environmental balance throughout the region. Accordingly, with the aim of addressing the following needs identified in the region, the «RURBACTIVITE» Local Action Group (LAG) will implement CACEM’s LEADER strategy:
- Revitalization of town centers and rural neighborhoods,
- Improving access to services outside urban centers,
- Maintaining a vibrant peri-urban agricultural sector, in partnership with local residents,
- Creation of a structured tourism offering that is central to what Martinique has to offer,
- Understanding and promoting natural areas and cultural sites.
North Cape:
Getting to Know and Supporting Farmers, the Pillars of Rural Life in the North
As the island’s agricultural heartland and green lung, stakeholders in the CAP NORD region have focused their strategy on developing small-scale agriculture—a hallmark of the region’s economic fabric—and on strengthening rural life in small towns and rural neighborhoods. Therefore, with the aim of addressing the following needs identified in the region, GALNORD will implement CAPNORD’s LEADER strategy:
- Upfront support for farmers, particularly small farms,
- Marketing and diversification of agricultural activities,
- Strengthening rural life in small towns and rural neighborhoods.
Southern Region:
Toward Rural Tourism Integrated into a Local Economy
As a coastal region focused on tourism but also featuring a diversified agricultural sector, the stakeholders of the CAESM have chosen to align their LEADER strategy with rural tourism integrated into a local economy. Accordingly, GALSUD will implement the CAESM’s LEADER strategy with the aim of addressing the following needs identified in the region:
- Adapting the tourism industry to new customer expectations,
- Preserving Agriculture and Developing Local Markets
- Enhancing the appeal of rural areas and small towns.
